Outside the Jukebox acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands on which we are gathered, the Jagera and Turrbal peoples. We are currently on the banks of what the Turrbal people call Maiwar, also known as the Brisbane River. For tens of thousands of years before colonisation, Maiwar was abundant with life, both within and on the river’s shores. It provided sustenance for generations of Aboriginal people, and was an important spiritual gathering place. Outside the Jukebox acknowledges that as the oldest continuous culture on earth, our First Nations people are the original storytellers of this place and we are proud to continue that tradition today. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
